1/Is Fluzone recommended for seniors over the regular vaccine? 2/ Is the new shingles vaccine in yet?
Fluzone High-Dose (a high dose trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine) is approved for use in Canada for adults 65 years of age and older. This vaccine is not currently publicly funded in BC; however, it is available for purchase from pharmacies throughout BC. Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization does not currently recommend preferential use of this vaccine over the other influenza vaccines available for use in this age group.
The new shingles vaccine (Shingrix) is available for purchase from some pharmacies and travel clinics. Please contact your local pharmacy or travel clinic for more information.
