What is in the influenza vaccine for this current season What does it cover and what preservative is in it Thankyou so much

There are various influenza vaccines available this season but supplies may vary in different locations.

The 2017/18 influenza vaccines protect against the following viruses:

    A/Michigan/45/2015 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus
    A/Hong Kong/4801/2014 (H3N2)-like virus
    B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus
B/Phuket/3073/2013-like virus (in quadrivalent vaccines only)

Flu vaccines in multi-dose vials contain thimerosal to protect against contamination of the vial. Most single-dose vials and pre-filled syringes of flu shot and the nasal spray flu vaccine do not contain a preservative because they are intended to be used once.

We recommend that you contact your immunization provider to find out what product is available. Or, you can call your local community health centre/health unit and ask to speak to a public health nurse. You can find the number here.
