I am a Chinese woman age 64, I had a cone biopsy at the age of 51, not sexually active since then. Do I need to get the HPV shots ?
Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization states the HPV vaccine may be given to women 27 years of age and older who are at ongoing risk of exposure to HPV. There are several factors to be considered in determining if you should get the HPV vaccine. We recommend that you discuss getting vaccinated with your health care provider who can make a recommendation for you.
Although women with previous Pap test abnormalities or cervical cancer may have had prior infection with one or more vaccine HPV types, they will benefit from receiving HPV vaccine for the HPV types to which they have not been exposed. The HPV vaccine does not treat or cure existing HPV infections.
